I have come here today to converse with you on my favorite topic… (Drum roll please) myself. Yes, I am such a great topic that there are many cities and places named after me. Yes, yes, wait?! What!? I have to change my topic? Well, then, instead of talking about myself, I will introduce you to Ouran High School Host Club! It’s this comedy romance manga that I just finished reading last night. It was so addicting, that I stayed up till 3 in the morning reading it, even though I had to go to mass the following day. Well, I often did put my laptop down and shut it, but that’s for restroom and junk food breaks.
In the Ouran High School Host Club: Haruhi Fujioka is a scholar student at the prestigious Ouran Academy, a fictional high school located in Bunkyō, Tokyo. Looking for a quiet place to study, Haruhi stumbles upon the Ouran Academy Host Club who gather to entertain female "clients". During their first meeting, Haruhi accidentally knocks over and breaks an antique vase valued at ¥8,000,000 (US$80,000 in English manga) and is told to repay the cost in service to the club. Haruhi's short hair, slouching attire and gender-ambiguous look cause her to be mistaken by the hosts for a male student. The hosts all agree that Haruhi would be a good host, thus making her join the host club. The hosts later find out that she is a girl, and they keep the secret so she can remain as a host.
This story is such a beautiful tale of the rich prince falling in love with the poor girl, except it seems like their roles are switched. The female main role, Haruhi Fujioka, is calm, dense, extremely blunt, and completely honest. She is not the girly type. The male main role, Tamaki Suou, is very cheerful and charismatic. His feelings get easily hurt my Haruhi’s blunt comments. It’s a unique romance story with lots of comedy, and bits of romance with some sad parts throughout the story.
You must read it!
Sincerely,
ToRI MaX
