Gina Norris (Queen Latifah) is a widowed hairstylist who has moved from Chicago to Atlanta so her daughter, Vanessa (Paige Hurd) can attend a private music school. She's made a name for herself as a stylist, but after her self-centered boss, Jorge (Bacon) berates her work, she leaves and sets up her own shop, purchasing a run-down salon. Because Jorge is jealous that his shop is losing clients to Gina's, he hires a health inspector to find various ways to shut down Gina's business.
This movie had some really great moments. My favorite character, besides Gina, is the blond chick. She follows Gina from Jorge’s Salon and becomes one of Gina’s employees. She finds it hard to fit in because she is the only white person at the salon. At first the other workers tease her a lot, but eventually, she finds her place at Gina’s salon. She’s one of the side characters. Gina is the main character which has such a strong personality. She attracts people to her, and her employees really love her. This shows toward the end of the movie when somebody breaks into Gina’s salon. Gina is close to losing hope, when the next day she walks into her shop, and finds it completely renovated by her employees.
This is a great movie! I suggest you watch it because it does have some important messages. Follow your heart, and it will take you where you want to be. There’s also Beauty Shop 2, but unfortunately, I haven’t seen that one. Let me know if you get to see it!
